Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Player the Athlete
The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening confirming they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in contact with the NFL.
The organization did not mention Rice by name in their announcement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Posted on Instagram
The woman, who also did not mention the athlete by name, shared a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She did say the person involved was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the team selected in the second round.
Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable
No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.
Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles
The receiver was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left several individuals hurt. He was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
Statistically, Rice finished the year with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
