Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months left on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
