Operations Recommence at Edinburgh Airport After Major ATC System Failure

A systems problem at Edinburgh's ATC meant no aircraft could arrive or depart from the airport.

Passenger services have resumed at Edinburgh Airport following a major air traffic control outage brought the international hub to a standstill.

All incoming and outgoing flights were suspended due to an systems problem that occurred at about 08:30.

A number of travelers found themselves stranded in jets at the stand while the issue persisted.

Flights Resume with Continued Disruption

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and thanked passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

However, considerable delays are anticipated to continue throughout the day. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been cancelled, with a host of additional flights facing hold-ups.

Officials had initially projected that dozens of flights could be affected.

"Passengers are advised to check directly with their airline for the most up-to-date details on their booked journeys," was the consistent advice.

Cause of the Chaos

The problem was traced to the widespread suspension to an IT issue with its air traffic control provider.

Flyers should still plan to check the status of their flight before heading to the airport as residual delays are managed.
