Peak Pizza? Domino's Pizza Chief Executive Departs Following Shift Into Fried Chicken.

A head of the UK's Domino's Pizza chain who indicated the United Kingdom might have reached pizza saturation while expanding the franchise into fried chicken has been replaced after disagreements with its board.

Leadership Change

Rennie is departing after a brief tenure in leadership, and will be replaced on an temporary basis by the organization's chief operating officer, Nicola Frampton, while the pizza giant looks for a new leader.

Rennie, who was with the company for a substantial period, had sought to redirect Britain's leading pizza takeaway chain towards poultry-based products, stating recently there was not “significant expansion” left in the UK's pizza market. He noted chicken was the most rapidly expanding food category in the international market.

Governance Friction

Reports indicate that there was disagreement between Rennie and the directors over his strategy and direction, although Domino's release said he was leaving “as a joint decision”.

New Brand Introduction

In the autumn, Domino's launched its Chick 'N' Dip offering – which Rennie described as a “major strategic shift” for the company – and is piloting it in 210 outlets in the North West region and the province.

While the company is still planning to expand it across its extensive network in 2026 as planned, it considers chicken products as an addition to its primary pizza operations.

Leadership Statement

The Domino's chair, the Domino's chair, commented: “The board believes that there are a range of possibilities to drive further growth and performance improvement in the main pizza segment. We are concentrating on selecting the ideal CEO to lead the careful implementation of that development approach.”

Market Difficulties

Earlier this month, Domino's, which has millions of users in the British Isles, said sales dipped by one and a half percent in the third quarter. In the summer, it alerted that the quick-service industry had “grown more challenging” as it attributed reduced spending in the lead-up to the government announcement and higher payroll outlays for below-target performance and a 15 percent decline in interim earnings.

Rival chains are also experiencing difficulties. Another major chain announced the shutting of dozens of outlets a recently, after the firm behind its outlets faced financial collapse.

Health Efforts

Trying to keep up with market shifts towards healthier eating, Domino's has rolled out reduced-calorie items, such as its light base range of pizzas below 400 calories as well as plant-based and gluten-free pizzas. A family-sized pepperoni has 2,311 kcals. A large cheese and tomato pizza has 2,171, while a personal has 909 calories.

Acting Leadership

The interim chief has been with Domino's since 2021, and had a background at the gambling company a well-known operator. It is understood that she prefers not to take on the CEO position on a full-time basis.

She commented: “We have a several ongoing expansion and efficiency programs that we will be dedicated to carrying out at a rapid rate.”

Frampton noted these involved further work on the company's supply chain and new item creation, and its customer retention initiative.

The pizza chain is also in need of a long-term CFO until the spring, when Andrea joins from the drinks company a well-known firm. In the meantime, Richard Snow acts as interim finance chief.
