Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was understandable for questions to be raised about his future following another convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in twelve matches, representing the club's worst streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received a lot of support from above,” Slot commented.
“It's important to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but if you are in a managerial role and struggling then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to expand on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal exchanges I sense the belief. However I've not talked to them since this match yet so let’s see.”
Familiar Problems and Squad Reaction
Slot highlighted familiar failings from his team in their Champions League loss, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a phase of this nature with results like these.”
He stated, “But we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And until it is taken away, we'll continue to fight.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad back to the top, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and why people call it the top club in the world.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
